Shield Dancer

The Shield Dance is a dance of combat in preparation of war. It is an honor dance for their shield medicine. The dance calls forth to the ancestors to help this warrior be brave and honorable in battle. This dancer, from the great Iroquois Confederacy wears his personal medicine. The red line that divides his face continues down his shield and the eagle feather at the bottom of the shield. The red line represents the Red Road or Native ways. In the Iroquois are 6 nations of the confederation, half kept their ancient ways and stayed in the light, the other half are lost in darkness having gave up their ways.
