Shield Dancer

The Shield Dance is a dance of combat in preparation for war. It is an honor dance to invoke the shield's medicine and to call forth the ancestors to help the dancer be courageous in battle. Today, this dance is done only in Exhibition. This dancer, from the great Iroquois Confederation wears his personal medicine. The red line represents the Red Road of truth. In the Iroquois are six nations of the Confederation, half kept the true Red Road and stayed in the Light, the other half are lost in darkness and have lost their way.
